The First Half of the 19th Century
Costache Păucescu
During the late Phanariot period and up to the Organic Regulation era, the land where the current building stands belonged to the boyar Costache Păucescu, a descendant of a family of minor boyars from Wallachia. His figure symbolizes the emerging urban middle class: educated, with clear values, and a taste for civilization and modernity. At that time, the property had the character of a traditional household - a merchant's house with a garden, cellars, and outbuildings.
1883
The harmony between french architecture and romanian medicine
In 1883, the French architect Paul Gottereau - already renowned in Bucharest for masterpieces such as the CEC Palace, the Royal Palace, and the Carol I University Foundation - was commissioned to transform the residence recently acquired by the esteemed surgeon Alexandru Racoviceanu into a space worthy of the era’s modernity.
Inspired by the Beaux-Arts style and the elegance of Parisian architecture, Gottereau remodeled the house in an eclectic style: high ceilings, elaborate stuccoes, a glassed-in conservatory, and an urban-style inner courtyard. Every detail reflects his vision of a lifestyle where beauty, science, and refinement coexist naturally.
Just as the CEC Palace became an urban landmark, this residence, under Gottereau’s signature, became an architectural statement - a subtle bridge between humanist medicine and the elegance of French architecture.

1860-1872
Dimitrie Bolintineanu
The poet who gave the house a soul
before Racoviceanu, between 1860 and 1872, the residence was home to Dimitrie Bolintineanu - poet, diplomat, and revolutionary. Author of Florile Bosforului, Mărgăritarele, and Legendele istorice, Bolintineanu was a romantic spirit, consumed by the longing for a youthful love - a Greek woman from Bucharest who inspired his first love poems.
This residence became his refuge in the final years of his life. In the refined silence of the salon, among manuscripts and marble busts, he wrote Menadele and Plângerile României. The house on Strada Negustori became a space for introspection, creativity, and resignation. The poet passed away here in 1872, surrounded by books, thoughts, and understated elegance.
2023
the villa. Event House
Complete restoration and reopening as a Premium Event Space - in 2023, the building underwent a full restoration following an investment of over two million euros. The original architecture was meticulously revived: façades with delicate decorations, terracotta stoves, ornamental beams, and stuccoes were brought back to life, while modern amenities - audio-video systems, smart lighting, and climate control - were seamlessly integrated into the spirit of the place.
Today, the house offers an exclusive venue for premium events - from corporate conferences, brand launches, and private dinners to elegant urban weddings and cultural gatherings. Every room preserves the echo of the past while providing the perfect setting for new stories.
